Saimoe 2009, Once More, with (More) Feeling

August 2nd, 2009

There isn’t a lot for me to say about Saimoe 2009 this year, because people are more organized than ever, at least those who do English. See this and that. There’s also this–a domain name and the same o’ HTML 3.0 layout that Japan likes, but in English? Nice idea!

The thing ‘officially’ begins on August 4th Japan time. Of course (if you’ve been following you would know all I have to say anyways, but also that) the entire process started much earlier in the year with the preliminary rounds. But while that’s also fun, the real party begins tomorrow.

I wrote a thing about Saimoe way back, and it is still valid for the most part. Just change the link names a bit. I’m sure you’re smart enough to figure it out…right? If not, that animesaimoe link should be helpful, or try one of the forums like the silly Animesuki guys. LOL rush LOL.

And if all that ISML or any other games you’ve been running with doesn’t wear you out, the tedious voting process for Saimoe is in a league of its own. How many of them test your patience like those hour-long waits?

I’ve never understood why everyone seems to go bonkers over Saimoe. I’m actually genuinely interested: what is the appeal?

Maybe I’m bitter because generally characters I like get annihilated by shitty ones. :(

On my end, My Favorite is Nogizaka Haruka. She is in the same bracket as her sister Mika And Kyou. That is PAIN(We all know Kyou will win that one.)You win some, you lose some…

I’ve been over Saimoe ever since Suiseiseki won back in 2006. I raged until I had no more rage to give.

Anyway, I’m gonna go for someone who has no chance, like Taki Tooru from Natsume Yuujinchou. Actually, no, since I’m rewatching Kimikiss right now, I’ll go for Hoshino Yuumi, since she has some chance of making it to the second round, but has no chance after that.

Why did I participate in Saimoe for the past few years!? Now that I hate anything that has the word ‘moe’ in it, I feel like Saimoe IS shit.

Also, would be better if your OP pic is in text version. If you know what I mean.

I’d hate to see another Saimoe taken over by KyoAni girls.

from what I see in the lineup, it looks like Mio is given cannon fodder.

It’s interesting to see the range of comments here, lol.

And to answer Negativezero: it’s because people’s WAIFU are on the line. It’s rich with emotion, lulz, emotive appeals and fun campaigns. The ascii/shift_jis artwork is the icing on top. It’s also another way to see all those gears of internet-social-networking-elements turn if you’re into that.

But it is a negative-sum game. There can only be one winner out of hundreds of losers, so in some ways it’s a cathartic exercise to make some moe otaku less kimoi, if you know what I’m saying.

Wait, did I comment on this entry and not realize it?

Anyways, I position myself more as an observer since the event itself holds a lot more amusement value if you take an impartial stance and chuckle at the shitstorms when they occur. The campaign posters announcing the combatants (as it were) in previous years were pretty awesome though and I do have quite a few saved up. There’s certainly no shortage of creativity anyways.

But yeah, putting any amount of vested interest in a character for the purposes of this contest just requires too much energy. Which means that I’ve effectively said “lazy.” :p

Is anyone there having problems with banned IPs when trying to post on 2ch? I’ve tried to use a lot of proxies but none of them worked. The only thing I was able to get is my vote code.

Omo, I’ve read your post about Saimoe 2007 where you mention you went into the same problem when voting and cited a few alternatives but unfortunately I can’t use any of them (besides the proxy thing that didn’t work). I can’t even ask someone I trust to vote for me because I live in Brazil and from what I understood of the error message I got, the entire country is blacklisted on 2ch and I have to pay a fee (!) if I want to post on the board.

Is there any other way or some specific proxy service that will allow me to post my vote on 2ch?

This is my first time trying to vote on Saimoe. I thought it would be fun but I’m already feeling discouraged and frustrated. Any help would be appreciated…

Well, the whole proxy thing is very legally grey, but there are some alternatives you can try, like Tor. Google that for more info. Anyways, if you can get the code, that’s the hard part. Posting it in the right thread is pretty easy, just ask for someone to help if nothing else works.

If you live in Brazil, though, just so you know your country has a very negative reputation on the Japanese internet, and it’s often unilaterally blocked on some services. I’m not sure if that’s the case for 2ch but I wouldn’t be surprised…

    THISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHISTHIS.

Of course, one person’s “It’s shit, right?” is another’s gold. I’m just a sore butthurt loser when characters I want to win don’t! \o\
