Otakon 2009: Day 3

July 19th, 2009

Just for you, Mr. Strange.

1. So. Tired.

2. I spent a lot of time doing nothing in karaoke, which was bad because I hear the Matsubara panel that I wanted to go but skipped was actually p. good. I forgot the sign-up began at 9am so my ninja plans failed miserably when I showed up at 10am.

3. At Otakon this year, Aniplex had a booth to promote Kannagi. There were girls in the costumes of the three girls, soliciting and helping people to find where to buy the R1 DVD in the dealer’s room, and also soliciting for confessions with Zange-chan. Yours Truly did so partly motivated by a free poster giveaway for those who would willing to do it in front of a camera. I thought it was kind of funny after the fact. Maybe it’ll make it on the Kannagi fan site or some such.

4. This is from day 2, but I thought it’s worth sharing: Digitalboy rocking out to a fun song.

5. Wotagei is everywhere.

6. I think the moment when I heard the 3 Magic Knight Rayearth songs played live at an American anime con, something inside of me clicked as if a phase of my life has come to completion. It’s like Naomi Tamura’s music career has come full circle, or something. Like the birth and death of a star–the big bright balls in the sky kind of star.

7. Not 100%, but I believe Naomi Tamura’s guitarist is Kenny from Cherry Boys. Talk about a surprise. And he does have mad skills. Reference here (around 2:30).

More to come, for a wrap I think and a couple focus posts.

LOL I remember seeing you whip out the glowstick when it was my turn at the karaoke. Good call.

Yeah, Matsubara’s panels was surprisingly top quality. Almost like a candid interview session.

I had a great time rockin’ out with you the entire weekend, omo. Let’s do it again next year!
