Otakon 2009: Day 2

July 19th, 2009

Uh, there was a lot of crap that happened.

1. Yamamoto-kantoku did indeed say something interesting on his second panel. His two focus panels were all Q&A and the crowd was “loose” enough in the first one to ask some touchy questions already. The second one, uh, I wasn’t there for all of it and I think I’m not suppose to write everything there online. But actually besides the Endless Eight bit, I think it was mostly fun and informative! The crowd was catching on that this man actually is not afraid to express his opinions!

2. <3 Hidenori Matsubara. See loot pic later today hopefully for some reasons why~

3. MELL is, in a word, nice. Or pro. Whichever you prefer. On the other hand she actually wonders if non-Japanese fans understand she puts on an image in her music and PV that is really different than her personality.

4. Ishiguro is OLD. He knows what he’s doing though, obv.

5. Meeting up with the MT vanguards is teh win.

6. Souls be Skilled.

7. Potbelly is a nice find.

Almost done!

So what did he say exactly?

Matsubara drew something for you didn’t he… Dammit if it’s some kickass pic of Sakura I’m gonna be incredibly jealous…

    > So what did he say exactly?

He asked us not to repeat it. (actually, it happened twice for different subjects, I think one is on Youtube already)

Ishiguro’s answers today were even longer than Yamakan’s, but I guess he was limited by what he can say through a translator.

I saw a Vermillion Akiha, but it was right as I was walking out to the rail station so I couldn’t stop.

I got pic of that Akiha. I was surprised it was a SHE. ZOMG a non-crossplay Tsukihime chara. Unless there was more than one Vermillion Akiha.

@tj_han: well, I wasn’t there so I can’t give you a first-person account, but read Zepy’s Canned Dogs. He’s got one of them.

    @ymmt: no, not Sakura…

I also got that picture of Akiha. So awesome. Like the only Tsukihime cosplayer I saw the whole con though. :(

ymmt: Right idea, wrong character. Still kick ass pic.

“7. Potbelly is a nice find.”
Didn’t know they had one in B-more, which is cool. I actually ate dinner today there at a branch near my home, and I was wondering if there were any in Baltimore or in other areas of the country. It would be fun to find out.

Well met Omo. It was great fun meeting you guys. I’ll have pictures up on my blog soon enough (on the bus back to my apartment)

I agree that we should not actually type out the stuff that Yamakan asked us not to repeat.

[…] Just for you, Mr. Strange. […]

It was great hanging out with you too W-General :)

N: there are a couple of them right in walking distance from the con center.

This is why I’m starting to think that Yamamoto might be the most important director in anime right now. Is that an overstatement? (…Probably, but I think we’re just starting to realize the full extent of his influence at KyoAni).

Wished I could have gotten a chance to be there since Yamamoto’s outspokenness is like a breath of fresh air based on the stuff that’s been leaked. It’s at least a nice breeze to clear out the ol’ groupthink that tends to be pervasive over there.

Not Sakura? You asked for Belldandy and has Inoue Kikuko sign it?!? Genius!

Man, I would’ve had a whole list of character requests…

  12. 8:48 PM, July 20th, 2009

that would be genius, but the timing didn’t work out that way…
