Tokyo Travelog 2009 Part 3.x
A much less exciting day, but much more painful for the wallet…
It’s always a good way to start the day with some fresh fish. However this is not an otaku eat, nor is it smart to wake up at 4am after being drained from concert-going the day before.
At any rate, Nanako Broadway is definitely the better “Mandarake experience” than the one in Akiba, plus it’s a decent shopping area to ditch any non-otaku companion you may also have while you file through the various trade figures and doujinshi laying around. Both are definitely highly encouraged, of course, but for people looking for very specific set of things, it’s going to scratch that itch better. I laughed at the Games Workshop there.
General silliness with Wildarmsheero ensued. Omo wonders if time spent in Japan cannot be wiser. The dreary weather that day, though, had other things to say about lack of wisdom. The smart thing, naturally, is to duck the rain inside a movie theater while watching teenage butts kicking monster butts! And yeah, what’s up with all the Asuka fanservice? I love the scene they kept from the original with various beverage things blocking the view while Asuka gaijin smashed Shinji in the nude, but seriously, it’s very, in Wah’s term, post 2000 fanservice. And that includes the over-the-top action choreography in some scenes.
And that’s that. Just a couple days left…

I find something about WAH being your otouto-kun to be intrinsically hilarious.
I enjoyed the juxtaposition between the first two sentences in the second paragraph.
Sounds like a wonderful trip — and how lucky you are to have WAH to serve as your Virgil through the circles of Akihabara.
Yes, WAH wasn’t quite the master of Akiba but he made great company. His online persona really gets ahead of himself… I think the Nishida artbook would’ve been found even without WAH though :)
I realize I am no “Master of Akiba.” The place is big. I need a year or so of going there weekly before I know where all the SUPER AWESOME stuff is.
Also, we barely had a day. You really need at least like… a long weekend to see all the good stuff in Akiba.
