Kalafina Live Blog @ Anime Boston - SUPER Rough Version
God bless free wi-fi. And no, this post does not auto-refresh so hit that refresh button every now and then for STUFFS:
Also, the pool is closed, no more live-ness.
[1:43] I’m in a line of sorts, snipping away at the odd cosplay here and there. The panel actually starts at 2pm EDT (5/21/09) so uh, come back later. And since I don’t have my camera synced to my laptop I can’t put up pictures real time. OTL. Nothing money can’t solve, anyways.
[1:46] Most likely this post will go live on Japanator at some point in a legible format if you want to wait for that. This is my first time doing something like this, so it is likely to suck! But w/e. Chat away in the comments if you’d like.
[1:50] Why is there some girl piping away on a flute?
[1:56] I think my laptop clock is off by 2 min.
[1:57] We are getting up… weeee…about time…
[2:00] Still waiting for the room to clea…
[2:05] All set up! Going to steal Jabel’s pictures…except they don’t allow photography here.
[2:06] Any questions? LOL I probably have no live readers but w/e.
[2:11] We are definitely running late. The PR girl is starting things up, Ai something. Now we watch some videos. Exclusive to Anime Boston, so she says!
[2:13] LOL, the sound guy put in the wrong DVD. Try again.
[2:21] Footage was not all that… you didn’t miss much besides some luls subtitles.
[2:22] Finally, our guests hit the stage. Kalafina girls all wore gothy looking knee-high skirts. No pics!
[2:23] Q1: To Kajiura: Why Keiki, Hikaru and Wakana?
Because they have different vocal qualities! The three girls now blend nicely in harmony and adds more energy.
[2:24] Q2 (more from PR-san): How do you feel about your US debut?
Hikaru: A little nervious; Keiko: happy happy; Wakana: excited!
[2:25] From the audience: Is Stevie Nicks one of your influence?
PR-san: Who’s Stevie Nicks?
Fan: famous musician
Translator: nope.
[2:26] A2: How did the audition work go for the Kalafina girls?
Hikaru: Totally nervous, but the whole process from being able to join and coming to the US, I am happy!
PR-san: She did it out of 30,000 people in the audition! It’s also her first time in America!
[2:28] A3: How good is your English?
Kalafina: A little.
[2:29] A4: I really like Sprinter, the set the dress everything. How much time did it take to make it? Was it more difficult?
Keiko: Sprinter was the first video we made. That is why they paid extra attention to details on outfits and music
Kajiura: It only took one day.
[2:31] A5: What other bands do you listen to?
Keiko: Pink. Wakana: Celine Dion. Hikaru: Beyonce.
Kajiura: Radiohead.
[2:31] To audience: How did you know Kalafina?
STUFF.
[2:33] A6: To those who are also working with Kajiura under FictionJunction, are you happy about it?
Wakana: It’s totally different mindset between the two projects. Kalafina is band with two other girls and the solo acts are with just Kajiura. We enjoy
[2:34] A7: (To Kajiura): Where do you find inspiration?
Kajiura: I like reading book, phrases or words that don’t have sound.
[2:36] A8: Weeaboo asks in Japanese–What is your biggest inspiration? (Other inspirations?)
Kajiura: Kara no Kyoukai was the biggest inspiration for Kalafina, as it started out to be the main purpose
[2:37] A9: What’s your favorite book that you’d reread?
Kajiura: Way too many
[2:38] A10: Do they record separately or togeter?
Kajiura: Separately
A11: Sticking with Kalafina
[2:39] A12: Game or Anime, which is harder to work on?
Kajiura: Same! Both are hard but interesting.
A13: You are the most beautiful girls in Boston! And what’s coming up with your new single?
Hikaru: The three part harmony. It’s a love story and it’s very romantic.
[2:40] A14: One word of advice for an aspiring artist?
[There were some confusion. LOL.]
Kajiura: Keep trying
[2:41] A15: What would be one word to describe the sound to Kalafina?
Wakana: Hmmmm
Kajiura: Wonderland.
[2:42] A16: Why Anime and Game music?
At first I didn’t work on anime music but film, but later on the producer asked her to do an anime
[2:43] A17: What music do you not like?
Kajiura: I like all music.
[2:44] A18:How do you write in your own song-language in your song?
Kajiura: Yeah, the words that make no sense in the song.
Kajiura: There are plenty of inspiration for them. The melody would just inspire the words. It can go on and on. After a while I would sing it, record it, and write it down. Then Kalafina sing it.
[2:45] QA ends.
Hikaru: we will perform tomorrow please come see us!
Keiko: Please buy and listen to our new album, Seven Heaven! It just released in America! [iTunes/Amazon]
[2:49] Group picture!
And there are some freebie giveaways.
[2:51] That is it. At least stuff that matters.

To me, the Kalafina members have great chemistry in their songs (though Kajiura probably helps with that). Do you know how long it took for that to develop, or how comfortable the members are with each other?
“Kajiura: Radiohead”
Fuck yeah!
I didn’t think I could like Kajiura any more but a lover of Radiohead is an instant comrade.
I couldn’t get your question in N, but I think it was indirectly answered I hope.
Oh, you were there too?
Did she say “keep trying” to the guy who asked for the advice? For some reason I thought she said “you’re cute”. -_-”’
Thanks for taking down all the Q&A. Some of those questions were definitely a bit too awkward. Can’t wait for the concert tomorrow.
Aurelia: you might be right. Can’t guarantee 100% accuracy :3
“[2:25] From the audience: Is Stevie Nicks one of your influence?”
I can’t see any resemblance whatsoever between them. What an odd question to ask.
[…] panel…see this. Also see […]
I think it did. Thanks for trying. :3
Thank you for including this in your blog, I found your blog while searching for AB09 reports. I was not at the panel, so this means alot to read. :)
Kajiura and Kalafina at the concert was awesome.
