King Record Denies Dirty Old Men, Thumbs Flicked

May 2nd, 2009

Lately I have a dry spill. Unlike traffic statistics or things that actually matter, I look at my output on this blog as a reflection of how inspired I am. It’s almost like a creativity-thermometer. But lately only silly (but nonetheless relevant) things occupy my mind–

When I first read this blog post I was like, what? Delay? Okay, but why the fuss? It was only some hours that after I put two and two together, and I realized they are delaying the release of Nana Mizuki’s latest CD because King Records want to scrub the name of an arrested drug-using musician from the production. This necessarily means reprinting the CD and probably getting rid a couple of the songs on the CD. That’s a big deal because it immediately affects the valuation of worth on the CD. What’s more, DISCOTHEQUE is likely out of the window…

DISCOTHEQUE is half the reason why I am getting this CD (Shin Ai is the other half). OTL. Well, it might be too early to say that I’m changing my mind on this album, but I am significantly less excited about it now than I was back in February. But then again, I really am in no position to complain.

If the songs aren’t too dirty, why must it even be removed? Seems ridiculous to me.

    >Aizen

It’s the Japanese notion of commiting crime equal to conducting a shameful/disgraceful act and thus for the pure/honest ones to remain clean/innocent they must distance themselves in everyway possible from this shameful/disgraceful person (which I suppose is really not that different in most cultures, just the degree of what each culture considers a seriously shameful crime). It’s got nothing to with the content of the songs at all, rather the simple fact that the song’s lyrics was penned by this shameful person thus King Records cannot be associated with him - until he repent for his crimes, usually by the way of making a public apology.

Indeed, and given the timing, it really sucks! If he was arrested like, right before the album is to release, there wouldn’t be any problems! If he was arrested earlier, he would have had time to apologize or w/e.
