Xam Xam’d: Bounen Xamdou the Lost Memories Round-up, no?

February 10th, 2009

Note the title? Yeah, never use a ‘ in your anime title. Ever.

The background crap.

  1. The hiatus and release difference between PSN US and Japan. It affected few but it really pissed me off, even if I could use the break.
  2. The stuff you could read before you get into it. - Wiki, Bones + Sony, the E3 2008 PR from SCEA. Hit up ANN for also trailers.
  3. The DRM Beeswax.

The episodic bloggers.

The reactions, the final impressions, the reviews. Skipping first-impressions because lols. There were a lot of mid-series outbursts, I’ll skip them for now (except 1, lol).

The features.

The wishlist. Random stuff that I know more than one of us would splurge on.

Further research.

The Playstation blog for the English-language release, charts, and lols. For the record, the last episode ranked #3 out of all TV episode downloads last week. I think that’s a good showing that anime does have a place on Video-On-Demand platforms sitting on game consoles, even if the PS3 is a bit of an outlier in more ways than one. What’s amusing is that the very early fans of Xam’d beat the rush to PSN VOD store and the first few episodes consistently ranked in the top 20 until more people started to use the PSN VOD stuff. Related to that is the AoDVD forums.

If there’s anything else interesting please post a link and let me know!

That interview with Miyaji was pretty interesting. Confirmed more than a few of my thoughts.

Aside from this post, are you planning on writing your feelings about the series as a whole? I find most peoples reactions really interesting and varied (thanks for putting up some I hadn’t seen) and enjoyed your episodic thoughts as well.

    I’m a lousy blogger :(

    You’re just fine tj :)

And I will post something about Xam’d probably in the future. I just don’t really feel like writing it at the moment. At any rate I think my focus is likely to be more about the production than the story and characterization if I do write something like a review.

I got that much but the 8/10 score threw me off a little. It’s a weakness of mine I guess. Thanks for the clarification! lolz.

    Hi Omo :)

Thank you for this compilation of Xam’d links - I especially liked Japan Times article.

I covered all Xam’d episodes in a photoessay format and will post a review this weekend.

    >A shame he never finished RahXephon.

I promise I’ll finish it eventually! I didn’t hate it, I just somehow reached a point where it seemed like a chore to continue. I really do actually want to get back to it though, especially after Xam’d, which despite my problems with it, I still think is one of the most praiseworthy shows I’ve seen in a long time.

Kitsune: thanks for the link. A little secret–I got your blog on my RSS Reader but somehow I forgot you follow the show. Looking forward to a writeup :)

dotdash: No hurry. I want you to enjoy RahXephon so please watch that at your own preferred pace. Plus it’s always good to have a different perspective.

Two votes for a coffee table-style art book. Hell, I’d buy a coffee table specifically for that purpose if they go to the trouble of publishing one. An OST and a Blu-Ray edition are certainly something I’d welcome too - before my HD got too full I loved the detail in the HD versions when I watched them on fullscreen.

And yeah, I’m interested in what you have to say about the series as a whole when you get around to it. A few people have been saying they appreciated it more marathoned so I guess that’s the next thing to try (which will involve an external HD to store it on by the looks of things).

Added Kitsune’s link and a few from AniPages Daily which are great reads about the whos of what. And yeah, check out the official site’s storyboarding omake if you haven’t.

    [editing my own comments…]
I normally don’t read the comments on AniPages Daily, but color me surprised to see a Peter Chung who commented on the Xam’d/Bones post there (the one dated last year). I presume it’s the somewhat-famous Korean-American animator/animation director and not some random Peter Chung.
