Xam’d Episode 20 - Xamkyria Chronicles
War.
War is serious business.
War is serious business until you’re faced with a crazy fairy who shoots green death.
Kujireika rocks it like it’s 1999, Ai yai i yai she’s a not-so little butterfly?
Episode 20 of Xam’d: Lost Memories marks the turning point of the narrative. Haru is now with Akiyuki waiting for the gathering of Xam’d, and the two make a couple lovely dovely moments.
Their guide, one of those white-haired strange Tessik types, greets Akiyuki and Haru as the episode wrapped up. I have no idea what is going to happen next, and they’re doing it on purpose…
Despite their reunion, the overall plot still splits in three–the war, Akiyuki/Haru, and Sentan Island. We didn’t get a wiff of the Zanbani crew at all in episode 20, so I guess 3 is the limit.
But the real story of episode 20 is with this red-shirtTessik villager. Loyally following Kujireika’s instructions. Defending his birthplace and home. Saving his women and children. All that good stuff. Against the ruthless Southern Continentals who are here to rape their red magic-stones to power their ships.
GADGET CHECK! That picture didn’t show up very well, but those bombers are rocking. Bombs, too.
Can’t have a real war without those sexy ASP suits right?
That is the command screen!
Now, ZOOM IN!
Press down to duck.
What is this? A pokemon grenade!
There goes all his action points.
But not all his command points!
I feel sorry (ok, I am sorry) for those of you who do not know what I’m referring to. It’s only just Valkyria Chronicles, the spiritual successor to the anime-RPG on your next-gen console. And yes, it’s getting an anime soon.
Man, I wonder how big was the original background drawing rez-wise for that overlooking shot of the Tessik village.
Meanwhile in the temple, Kujireika is getting her butterfly costume ready.
It seems this egg contains the remain of Kujireika’s mother. Is Tessik culture matriarchal? There are reasons to suggest this is the case.
Note the flower.
Kujireika shares with us her deep-down resentment against Nakiami here. While she puts it up as a big deal–Kujireika (Issac?) is the rightful daughter of the village leader where as Nakiami is adopted from their servant girl (Ishmael?), that Nakiami was born special meant she got better treatment. But geez, she could’ve just said something like her mom didn’t go to her softball game and went to Nakiami’s piano recital or something.
I jest.
And while we know you can’t have a full length Bones anime without a good bawling, this is as much Yango and Nakiami contributes to this episode. Their interaction in this episode packs quite the punch, cashing in from the last 3-4 episodes of character development even if only on screen in episode 20 for a little bit.
Cameo from Michiko & Hacchin?
Anyways, back on Sentan Island, the real build-up for this episode begins. They don’t spend a lot of time and it’s very to-the-point, for the most part. At this point Xam’d is increasingly…shall we say, ensamble-like. Everyone’s got to play a role.
The man with the mustach, as you recall from the last episode, is working for the army and hooked up Haru with some travel money. He resigns and leaves Kakisu to his own devices. I guess I never made the connection that he was a commander-type person in the military.
This was very cute. In a “hey her dad is like Kiki’s boyfriend but all grown up” kind of way. Who knows, maybe Haru’s mom is a witch.
We know she’s kind of a witch.
Oh she’s DEFINITELY a witch. Peace out with those flying tangerines! Magic!
Anyways.
We see Haru passed the vial to Akiyuki. I’m not sure what it is, but I suspect it might be a different version of those chocolate truffle-things that Kujireika was chomping on.
And Midori-chan is the prize and unifying point for the Sentan Island characters, I bet. Which is why her dad is going to get involved. Kakisu have other plans for her, but I guess that’s what’s exciting!

Hahaha, does Kujireika’s Xam form have zettai ryouki???
hahaha I think so, although the coloring is the same.
I thought Kuijreika looked kind of sexay until, well, this.
