Xam’d Episode 17 - Haru-chan no Ecchi
She’s no too-shy shy-girl. Or too-pure pure-girl.
OR IS SHE? DUN DUN DUN.
Later in the day:
Anyways, the primary purpose of episode 17 is to get things set up. So instead of calling it Yet Another Build-Up episode, it’s more like a Set-Up episode.
A potential vehicle for narrative for this blog post, as I was preparing for it, is our lovely Krauser II-sama. There is rape and hell, so it would’ve been possible.
Where’s the hell in this episode? Eloping and going to hell on a nice boat:
But the primary focus of this episode was Akiyuki’s new life at Amau Plateau, an all-season assisted living facility? They sure take good care of their patrons. Besides that, Akiyuki still ends up doing slave-ish things.
Yeah, he was actually delivering mail. Figure that.
Visual themes this episodes are …flowers? Wheelchairs? Not sure.
Akiyuki’s owner, Sumako, is an old lady with an incurable disease. Her son has died in the war but she is fronting Akiyuki as her son even when everyone else knows he isn’t. She also knows he isn’t but she dotes on him in an unhealthy manner…possibly. I should say, she dotes on him and EYETOY. It seems she observes Tessik customs and knows that Akiyuki won’t be able to take off his mask until he remembers his name. She also knows only some people can see EYETOY, and it is a part of Akiyuki somehow. The EYETOY, however, can eat and can weave its…flagellum into a mouth? It was very WTH when it started to talk to the radio narration that we heard last episode with the Zanbani crew (who are entirely missing in this episode).
Akiyuki attempts to eat and is FALE. Ever thought you didn’t had a mask on but you did?
Gadget CHECK!
This episode was a little hard in terms of gadgets. But if there was a Batman in Xam’d, then Nakiami is it. We got a good view of Sumako’s wheelchair, and it is a hover chair! No wheels. We also got a good view of the other wheelchair in the show used by the Tessik scientist back on Senkan Island.
Speaking of which, we got some development also with Nazuna’s telepathy. It seems like Azami, the Tessik prisoner, is talking through her telepathically. It’s weird–maybe Nazuna’s subconscious communicates with Azami, who consciously manipulates Nazuna’s body to relay the message?
Yea, Akiyuki’s mom is dealing with a lot of stuff.
Lastly, before we forget, yes, we meet one of Nakiami’s Tessik relatives in this episode, albeit briefly.
No, not that. This. Her sister to be precise:
Younger sister! She looks older than how she looked in Raigyo’s picture. Looks like she’s got family problems (what a surprise).

The EYETOY is creepy… creepily cute.
And Nakiami’s sister reminds me of whats-her-name from AMG.
She does look a tad like Urd, I guess.
EYETOY? More like Unown. Gotta catch em all.
Delicious letters you must eat, NOM NOM NOM
I can explain:
Who were the letters that Akiyuki distributed?
Were they sent by the soldiers killed or were the same letters that family members?
Can you explain that part?
In the episode says:
The people the letters were addressed to passed away several days ago.
What does that mean?
Well we know the letter that Unown/EYETOY(this is a PS3/PSP anime after all) ate is for Sumako. We also know they put Akiyuki up for delivering the mail because, I guess, the staff there don’t want to upset the people living there.
It’s a Sony!
Akiyuki failing at eating was awesome, as was that weird eye thing showing him how real eatin’ is done. If Nakiami had brought the vaginacompass instead, she wouldn’t have gotten lost.
LOL.
