Nana, Xam’d Updates

October 13th, 2008

Since Sony’s video store ops have no inclination to pump out press releases or blog posts or anything in regards to the switching on/off of series, all I have is speculation.

Speculating is fun, right? We know that Xam’d came upon the anime scene much like the Second Coming, just nowhere as purportedly awesome. But it’s like a thief that came like the PSN Video Store announcement, day-date. And a healthy “what the hell is this? how do you say it?” when people are pummeling the preview video and episode 1 rips around the web. Heck, it still doesn’t have an English-language, official homepage dedicated to the show itself. Hey Sony, did you dropped the ball and couldn’t find it or what?

This past weekend I was out of town but somehow I was able to show that same trailer in front of a half-dozen people. It impressed at least one. But at the same time I wasn’t able to camp the PSN site like a hawk. Maybe I should just take a clue and check only on Wednesday mornings. The new PS3 firmware update is suppose to come out soon, but maybe in a future one they should add a RSS feed reader linked to their store?

Who am I kidding, you can just go to the web version of the PSN video store and see what has been added from the web.

Going back to speculation, the Japanese PSN Video Store (and its dirty, 30-day rentals) is putting out 2 episodes of Xam’d each week since September’s launch, so they’ll catch up roughly in another 2-3 weeks to episode 12. I hope from that point on they will do day-date Japan/US releases, or at least that’s the sensible thing to guess. If not, then there’ll be hell to pay.

Of course, that speculative reality begs the question again. Without being 100% exclusive, will it increase or decrease the incentive for me to keep buying, $4 a week? Probably not. Obviously it’s still exclusive in terms of being translated to English, and I think those of us who’ve stuck to it are a bit hooked. As you know, Xam’d is excellent and having 5.1 sound and hi-def to go with, it’s a tough thing to say no to once you’ve seen how good it looks with your own eyes. Rationalizing only does so much against physical impressions.

Being fans, we can distract ourselves with massive QQing and /b/-type antics on the Playstation Blog or something, until the next episode comes out. Not a terrible idea IMO.

Well, clearly this means I’m not going to blog Xam’d the next couple weeks, unless something positively surprising happens. Sorry folks! The leaked episode 13 is definitely intriguing but I don’t think I’m going to write about it even if I do end up watching it. Not until the official release anyways. I guess it’s like, lol, a vacation. And maybe the service disruption might actually cause some mindless fansub sheeples to ask “where’s Xam’d 13-14-15-16?” and figure out it isn’t a fansub like any other and it’s totally just warez-out goodness. Mmmm warez.

In other news, Nana has turned from Osaki to Komatsu. That good news should brighten someone’s day…?

The PSN Store site is the best! I still don’t understand why it’s sooo expensive, do you get a golden box set when the series finishes, because $4 x possibly 50 episodes = $200… D: Not really worth it for condom-like durability.

I’d rip it at full HD if I were you, justification for costs, though the hardware to do that is wow. Still don’t see why people aren’t splitting costs and group viewing.

This whole digital media world has a lot of kinks to be worked out anyway.

muu Nana, no more rain! Actually, after the first TS we had, officials said we would need 11 more just like it (each w/36 straight hours of rain) to reach normal table levels.

Group viewing is FTW. I want to go to Momotato’s house every week :(

The hardware to do that is wow, yeah, and which is why I’m sort of happy that someone is ripping it in HD and distributing it.

Hmm, I see. Ah well, at worst no Xam’d for us for a couple of weeks… but given the fact that the Fall seasons are here (with a surprising amount of good stuff too), it isn’t like we won’t be able to distract ourselves while waiting, I guess :D.
Edit: I just checked the japanese main page for Xam’d and they say there that they’ll only release 2 episodes a week until episode 12, after that it’ll be one episode a week, thus it seem svery likely that we’ll have to wait until they’ve caught up with us indeed.

Nice update. Yeah, I guess that probably just sealed the deal with the waiting-for-japan theory.

I take it we aren’t getting any Xam’d for a few weeks huh? I was behind anyways, watching the show in batches (ala 4-5 episodes) is much more rewarding. Anyways….Nana what? Gah here I thought I was going to get some sudden news regarding a second season of my beloved NANA! Oh well hoping for the best.

    Omo: Indeed.

Ivy: There’s really no way to confirm for sure until this weeks tuesday has passed without episode 13 or 14 appearing. If that’s the case, then 13 won’t be re-released until after the japanese has catched up completely (which is IMHO a stupid thing to do - with 13 being leaked, they should already have released the episode anyway to salvage what could be salvaged - some people want to buy it after all, but if we’re in for a delay, espeacially a longer one, then most will succumb to temptation…

Update on the situation: It would seem like the PSN store is down. Xam’d-fans all over speculate that this is to fix the problem with that epoisode 13 hasn’t appeared yet (I’ve heard a few people say that the episode has been going between appearing and disappearing on the PSN, so maybe this is what they’ll fix) - or possibly they’re going to make sure that this time there’ll be no episode leak this time around. Xam’d fans all over are holding their breath awaiting the answer: Will we get an episode this time around… or have to wait for three or more weeks at least before getting it? Only time will tell…

Pretty sure it’s down because of new firmware updates going up.

Yeah, I heard aobut that as well, but many speculate that they’re also going to do that to “fix” the episode 13 matter and put episode 14 up. Hope, the greatest gift and curse of Mankind eh? 9_9 .

I was told that the Information Board contains some kind of announcement about this. But not having a PS3 right this moment I can’t check. Anyone wants to take a look?
