Do You Remember…
…love, and remember to preorder Macross Frontier OST2? It comes out this week.
And it’s as awesome as the first one. If you’ve enjoyed the ride that was Macross Frontier, then those battle anthems about “who you’re gonna kiss” and “remembering love, space bug style” will really rock your socks.
And there’s always those Maaya Sakamoto-esqe folksy stuff that makes it the charming easy listening. Anata no Oto GET!
And all of that is just the glorious shadow to the heart and soul, the orchestra soundtrack behind this literal space opera. It is the kind of stuff that lives in the gaps between songs (guh) that were playing when Battle Frontier got serious in the last episode of Macross Frontier. This is the stuff of legends that should have went with that sucker-punch scene instead of that epic-in-its-own-way but over-the-top remix. I can listen to track 18 all day long.
And lastly, it’s been a while since I’ve gone out of my way to buy every piece of CD that the show puts out, even as casually as I have been. It’s not to say the music of MacF is somehow better? But I don’t think my 2008 would’ve been the same if not for May’n and her Diamond Crevasse or Megumi-chan’s What ’bout my Star. The association of joy I have with this music is so strong and well-woven that just by producing a professional-quality, almost-a-step-above-anisong product, people of all ages will eat it up like ice cream and apple pie.
Some affiliated links for your convenience? This should be the list of Victor’s CDs that will cover all the songs from the show that you can buy right now. One nice thing about the two soundtracks is that they have full versions of many of the single title tracks, so you could skip the singles if you just want the quintessential Macross Frontier experience.
- OST 2 - Nyan Tora. - Read more about it at Mai’s.
- OST 1 - Nyan Furo. - The first soundtrack. And it honestly sold a lot. (Surely you have this, legit or not?)
- Triangler - The Maaya Sakamoto x Yoko Kanno reunion CD single. The coupled track is not a part of the show and naturally unique to this single (till her next CD?). Otherwise it’s on OST1.
- Diamond Crevasse - This single comes with Iteza Gogo Kyuuji Don’t Be Late, and both songs are on OST1. Get it for the offvocals (or not :3).
- Seikan Hikou - While it’s technically the “Megumi Nakajima Debut Single,” it’s closer to a mini CD. It has 4 actual tracks and 2 off-vocals, and besides the title track, the others are not on either OST. Well, that is if you don’t count the special cut of Ai Oboeteimasuka used in the preview episode 1 of MacF from last winter (or whichever versions of episode 1 that’s out there…). The “little queen” version of OST2 is not the same thing I think. At any rate I’d recommend this if only for Neko Nikki. It’s definitely the best track on there…
- Lion - This comes with Northern Cross, making it an actual “OP-ED” single. And surprisingly Lion is not on OST2, although I don’t think it’s an outright bad thing. However if you feel strongly about Lion this is a CD to get. I’m much more of a Northern Cross person and that is on OST2 (but slightly different cut…)
And…that’s it. For now. It’s not too hard of a hit for the bank account, right?

OST2 felt like it played through a lot faster than OST1 for some reason? I guess because there’s more of a balance between BGM and vocal tracks? In any case, definitely worth the listen (yay for *finally* have a full version of one of the girls singing Do You Remember Love!)…
… too bad about there being no version of Maaya singing Aimo; now that would have been hot. Maybe in OST3 if there will be one? Or maybe for the movie OST? O_o
They tease you with it at the end of the medley, but yeah. WTB full version.
I think this feels shorter because of all those vocal tracks. I personally prefer more BGM stuff, but this is fine.
“(Surely you have this, legit or not?)”
I have it both ways! Errr…
Is cool. I just don’t want people to miss out like, the best OST this year ;)
First thought: Anata no Oto is stunning. Second thought: the Grace remix of Aimo is a great tune on its own - once I dissociated it from the context it had in the show itself, I warmed to it. *sigh* yeah, it’s a great record overall, although I do kinda wish they’d include Lion on there somewhere. Expect proper reviewage in the next few days.
