Otakon 2008: Day 2, 3: A Blink of an Eye

August 11th, 2008

Because internets at the hotel (Radisson by the way) sucked, here’s kind of a quick post or report before I crash and burn for the day. [edit I guess I crashed before I can finish this, full Otakon writeup coming soon-ish]

Day 2… was mostly the “suck” that I expect from an average con experience; not everything will go your way all the time. But hey, no big deal. Still ended up VERY AWESOME considering how many autographs I got in the face of stiff opposition.

Day 3… well, traffic aside, it was a lot of fun. Karaoke is definitely something that is made for anime cons. Those of you who sang with me (or by yourself), you know who you are–you guys rock!

Hung out a lot with Moy this time. He’s very excellent and so is the stuff he writes here. We gotta hang out more. There was a Super Rats. Saw Baka-raptor and Os. Os is LOLAWESSOME. Did I see lolikit? I did see Ten and Anna but they ran away so fast. N and Link and Wahhhhh and Beefy and digitalboy and OgiueMan and the welcome datacomp guys…I know I missed some of you, and it is because on my way home there was traffic and hail was flowing like ash like snow. I will be sorry and I will edit.

This morning (or about 18 hours ago [edit: more like 28 hours now]) I sang What ’bout my Star, Sheryl On Stage version. While wearing her badge (Arcu ftw) and even have HAND MOTIONS. HAND MOTIONS. This is all karaoke, on stage. Albeit you don’t get much for audience at 9:30 Sunday morning. How am I not a Sheryl fan, huh?

Oh, lastly, Friday set list:

ROCKS
Crush Gear Fight
No Border (lol English)
GARO
Cha-la Head Cha-la (solo)
Yuusha-ou Tanjou (solo)
Rinbu Revolution (solo)
We Are! (solo)
Cry for the Earth (acoustic)
Little Wing (acoustic)
Angel Voice (acoustic)
Break Out
Meikyuu no Prisoner
Nageki no Rosario
Hagane no Messiah
Gong
Victory
Encore:
Soul Taker
SKILL

(… is it sad to admit that I’ve been checking animenano all day to see when you’d post about your JAM experience?) Anyway, Saturday = the “suck”? But Saturday = autographs! And Q&A panel! And hand shakings! (though I unfortunately did not know about their appearance at the Bandai booth at 4:30, even though I was IN THE DEALERS ROOM AT THE TIME, I’M AN IDIOT)

Ah you ran into traffic too going back? Dude left at like 4:30PM and didn’t get back to NJ til like 8PM. All that random rain and insane congestion killed!

    Shoot wanted to see your rendition of What ’bout my Star but getting up on Sunday was killer. I guess it was worth it to see the Sunday concerts although my body is saying otherwise ^^;;

And yea, we should definitely chill again. At least definitely at NYAF if anything else (feeling if I don’t go, the wrath of Hinano may be fierce as well).

BTW, found it funny we both were wearing JAM Project’s concert shirts that day. LOL you run out of clean clothes to wear too?

Here’s a crappy recording of your second karaoke - http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm4262078. I thought the song was over so I turned the camera off, oops :|

I sang along with all of those (’cept ‘Borderline’, that’s the title of the English version of No Border) … that’s why no karaoke on Saturday. XD WORTH IT!!!

It was such an honor to meet you, you dont even know. It’s a shame I had to leave you guys outside the Bandai *shitty* Surprise Panel and missed all your singing. Lolikit was with me and we definitely would’ve sang but we had other plans. More in depth hang out next year?

  7. 10:17 PM, August 11th, 2008

We gotta hang Os, and we will!

It was nice meeting you gingasan! I know my voice was dying too after the show~

[…] today that I met some amazing bloggers. This MADE my con experience. I was greatly honored to meet Omo and Moy because they’re my senpai. Omo just oozes experience and sage-ness while Moy was […]

Yeah, it always seems to take twice as long to get back from Otakon than it took to get there. It was cool meeting you and hope that next time I can hang out longer.

I’m going to actually get over myself and attempt some more karaoke next time around. I actually tried to sign up on Saturday and Sunday, but missed the cutoff both times… orz. Next time, I might serenade with some Fly Away, or some of Fire Bomber’s hits. :P

It was fun getting up there and singing SKILL. And wondering about why people in the JAM Project panel seemed to shun our little group for questions. Not to mention epic Bandai panel failure. :P

  11. 9:20 AM, August 12th, 2008

You should’ve skipped the industry panel on Sunday morning and sang with us!

  12. 2:01 PM, August 12th, 2008

I should have, but at the same time I was able to ask the two guys from FUNimation a question, and I got to meet Scott. :P

  13. 5:01 PM, August 12th, 2008

Is that a diss to him or to me??? LOL. What did you ask anyways? There were like 30 people at that panel so you better write about it lest it disappear like a faint memory.

  14. 11:17 PM, August 12th, 2008

I _think_ we saw each other! :D

  15. 12:08 AM, August 13th, 2008

    Me too! \o/

Rats: yea we should all get together for NYAF or something…maybe.

  16. 1:04 PM, August 14th, 2008

[…] anime bloggers have done a better job covering what actually happened at the con better than I could. […]

  17. 1:26 PM, August 14th, 2008

Eh… the question wasn’t much. Just trying to wonder how FUNi decided which retailers to sell their wares (answer: Cast as wide a net as possible, apparently.).

It’s not a diss to you, but it’s just because I wanted to meet as many people as possible, to put more faces to names and so on.

And on my short Day 3 post, there should be something about the panel there~

  18. 5:25 PM, August 14th, 2008

The AoD guy transcribed that panel so I skimmed it already. I think a lot of the questions are sort of no-brainers, but that’s par for the course.

I think having seen myself karaoke from WAH’s links it may be better off if you weren’t there :)

  19. 10:39 AM, August 18th, 2008

    Damn Americans.

  20. 12:47 PM, August 18th, 2008

I met someone who was from Singapore! It could have been you!
